II Boccia Tournament named after St. Nicholas

2020-12-14

Thanks to hospitality of priest of Jan Jagiełka - manager of the House for the Disabled in Piekoszów as well as thanks to cooperation between We play with you Foundation and Foundation for Active Rehabilitation - swietokrzyskie division, we could meet in a beautiful sports hall and organise amateur boccia competition.

We are happy that this type of sport competition awakens stronger and stronger interest both on the part of players and spectators, even this short before Christmas. 36 players of ages between 3 and 70 participated in the tournament, they were cheered on by families and friends. For many of the participants, this competition was not only the possibility of leaving their houses but also to enjoy sport. Big group of players in this tournament experienced boccia for the first time in their life.

We play with you Foundation

2019-11-20

Together with November new challenges came along. I was offered the possibility to be the president of the Foundation and what is obvious I didn’t reject it. Having the possibility to work with such great people is an honour for me as well as a stimulus for mobilising myself. I believe that together we will conduct many interesting projects. Please, keep your fingers crossed for us.

National Championships in Cracow

2019-11-15-16

I came home with a silver medal. My sport ambition was bigger but there comes a time when I feel a little bit of ‘wear and tear’. I wish to congratulate my rivals and especially Dominic who have made huge progress and is in a great shape. I also wish to congratulate another player from Kielce - Robert, who received classification in Cracow. He will be playing in BC3 group. I am glad that I have played my modest part in Robert’s joy. I would like to thank the organisers for great competition.

Polish Paralympic Committee

2019-10-11

We are after the gala of The Ministry of Sport and Tourism which summarised the European Week of Sport - it had been the possibility to show gratitude to organisers of many sport events in Poland as well as to ambassadors of the project. Sport minister Witold Bańka awarded the prize to Andrzej Janowski who spreads knowledge about boccia. Ambassadors of the Week included Maciej Lepiato, Justyna Kozdryk as well as an energetic swimmer Zosia Dzięcioł. Congratulations to all participants!

"Lodołamacze" competition

2019-09-16

Just being nominated to this competition was a great honour for me. Such a commendation is a source of wonder and joy for me but simultaneously I feel truly satisfied about the fact that I was among such wonderful people who promote activity among people with disabilities.

EUROPARAGEDON Project

2019-09-13

Boccia is a sport dedicated to absolutely everyone. Today we had a proof of that in players from Poland, Italy, Greece and Croatia. As part of the EUROPARAGEDON project, they participated in a professional training session of this sport under wings of Andrzej Janowski - the man behind Świetokrzyski Boccia Marathon.

During this training session Andrzej Janowski presented the rules of this game, at the same time proving that it is the perfect sport for blind people. The coach had meticulously discussed throwing techniques and later on they were presented by player from our region - Mateusz Waksmundzki. In our game we had not only professional players from Italy - Jessica Elisabeth Stocco and Jacopo Baldo but also amateurs who could play the first time.

And as for the fact that during dinner as an answer to a question „What did you like the most we heard boccia, boccia boccia”, it proves that it was all worth it. „You are lucky to have Andrzej Janowski. And we were lucky to meet him” that is what Italian players told us after EUROPARAGEDON.

Jessica Stocco from Sport Association for Disabled "Orange Bowl" and Jacobo Baldo from Sport Association for Disabled "Delfini" together with their irreplaceable assistants Maura Mattiolo and Manuela Torri appreciated the professionalism and passion of Andrzej Janowski who on the 13th of September had so perfectly organized boccia games during which he explained the rules of the game, professional rules for referees, playing techniques as well as organised the tournament on 14th of September. The team from Italy got third place.

„We are sure that our cooperation will develop, because it is rare that you meet such people as Andrzej. It was wonderful experience for us, we had learned a lot and we want more.”.

„Pure heart” competition

2019-09-05

I was filled with joy and a sense of wonder during the awarding ceremony of ‘Pure heart’ competition in which I was a nominee. I feel truly satisfied about the fact that I was among such wonderful people who promote activity among children, teenagers and the elderly.

International Boccia Event Poznań 2019

2019-06-26--01-07

W dniach 26.06-1.07.2019 odbył się International Boccia Event Poznań 2019. Turniej ten był kolejną okazją do międzynarodowej rywalizacji. Zdobyte II miejsce w parach BC4/BC5 cieszy aczkolwiek sportowy niedosyt pozostał.

26-28 of April 2019 the 3rd Swietokrzyski Boccia Marathon

2019-04-26-28

Information about the 3rd Swietokrzyski Boccia Marathon

The idea of organising boccia marathon came to me in February 2017. After long winter break the players lacked competition and, above all, the opportunity to leave proverbial four walls and to integrate with other athletes. I decided to make it easier for them and I invited dozen of people to the House for the Disabled in Piekoszów for a day-long competition named: First Świętokrzyski Boccia Mini-Marathon. In organising the competition I had the support of my wife Kasia, priest Jan Jagiełka - host of the facility as well as the Piekoszów commune head - Zbigniew Piątek. The competition raised large interest, however due to small hall and lack of funding there were many players whom I had to invite to the marathon next year, with a promise that then our tournament will last two days and that we will organize it in a bigger facility.

Our expectations were fulfilled by the Masłów Commune Head Tomasz Lato and Sport and Physical Therapy Association "START” in Kielce, which automatically became co-organisers of the second Świętokrzyski Boccia Marathon. Competition, that took place in June, turned out as a huge sport and organisation success as well as a great opportunity to promote our region. The event was visited by the players of PGE VIVE Kielce who became fans of the games between Paralympic athletes. Marshal of the świętokrzyskie province had noticed our tournament and I had received a commendation as the author of the idea behind and organiser of one of the best sport events in our province in 2018.

Soon we will witness the third Świętokrzyski Boccia Marathon. Between 26 and 28 of April 2019 Masłów commune will host the best Polish players of boccia - Paralympic sport. Co-organisers of the competition include Sport and Physical Therapy Association "START” and Andrzej Janowski - player and coach in this sport. Players from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Ukraine will also take part in the competition.

Honorary patronage over the tournament is held by the marshal of the świętokrzyskie province -Andrzej Bętkowski, Bogdan Wenta - mayor of Kielce and Mirosław Gębski - Kielce staroste Sport patronage: Polish Boccia Association with registered office in Poznań. Media patronage over the competition is held by: TVP 3 Kielce, Świętokrzyska TV, Kielce, Kielce Radio, eM Radio and Echo Dnia - newspaper.

Summary of 2018 in sport

2018-12-11

2018 ends with great event. Swietokrzyskie local government summed up 2018 year in sport. The event took place on Thursday at the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic Hall in Kielce named after Oskar Kolberg. Those who were commendated include, among others, best athletes – medalists of the world, Europe and national championships, their coaches, sport clubs and organisations, clubs which celebrate their anniversaries this year, best sport events in our province in the year that ends.

Among these prominent people I had the opportunity and pleasure to receive two commendations:
1. for my achievements in sport,
2. as the author of the idea behind and organiser of one of the best sport events in the świętokrzyskie province in 2018.

It was a truly pleasant surprise for me that, as the organiser of the second Świętokrzyski Boccia Marathon, I could find myself among commendated organisers of such events as Women Handball World Championships or Olympic Taekwondo National Cup.

This huge credit is both my personal success and, above all, the success of all participants, coaches, assistants, co-organisers, sponsors, volunteers, all people who were engaged in organising this tournament. In addition, it was also a success of the sport of the disabled.

Without you, there would be no tournament, no joy on the faces of participants and no commendation.

I’m glad that such a non-commercial sport, which some even consider being not so interesting from the point of view of the media, was appreciated by the jurors and, thanks to the competition, became more widely recognised in our province.

I think that this commendation will in a positive manner influence the way people perceive people with disabilities.

When organising such a huge event as the second Świętokrzyski International Boccia Marathon as well as taking part in numerous projects dedicated to people with disabilities, I succeeded in convincing those who didn’t believe it, that disability is no obstacle to pursuing our goals, even the truly ambitious ones.

Creativity, optimism, courage, showing consequence in what we do, determination, assiduity and high-level communication skills guarantee success regardless of what kind of obstacles we have to deal with along the way.

I believe that with support of the city and province authorities I will have the possibility to coordinate many interesting enterprises aimed at complete social inclusion of people with disabilities.

Family Boccia Tournament for St Nicholas Day

2018-12-15

On the 15th of December boccia players and their families had met in Piekoszów to participate in Family Boccia Tournament for St Nicholas Day. The competition was full of emotions. Winners had received diplomas. Children were happy about St Nicholas visit who together with his presence and gifts introduced Christmas mood.

National Boccia Championships have already passed.

2018-11-16-18

Once more we had the proof of how beautiful and unpredictable this sport is. In every category champions from the previous year didn’t succeed in defending their titles. Young ambitious and talented players had appeared. I also didn’t succeed in defending my title but I feel happy about the silver medal. I was defeated by one point both by Dominik and by my body. During the year that passed I have considerably improved a few elements of my playing but unfortunately I haven’t found a solution for my freezing hands (even in positive temperature). It will be better next year. Once more, I would like to congratulate the winner - he deserved a gold medal this year. In addition, I would like to congratulate Mateusz, who, after only few months of practice, is among 5 best BC5 players in Poland.

Between 19 and 22 of October 2018 Boccia Preliminary Tournament for National Championships was held in Wągrowiec - the birthplace of Polish boccia.

The one who played great matches in the tournament was Mateusz Waksmundzki (START Kielce) who in the final defeated previous year national champion - Marek Bogaczyk.

Results of the Championships:
  • BC1 players
  • BC2 players
  • BC3 players
  • BC5 players

Another success of START Kielce players.

2018-10-12-14

Between the 12th and 14th of October 2018 Konin hosted 15 best Polish teams in the final of Boccia Open 2018 National Cup. The Kielce team was also present, it included: Janusz Kowalczyk, Jacek Obara and Władysław Pałys. Members of our club smashed the elimination stage by winning all matches. In the semi-final they were defeated by one point by Zamość team, which ultimately won the whole event. Ultimately, our players ranked as 4th in the competition. Taking into consideration the fact that two out of three players have a very short training period behind them as well as the fact that they debuted in the competition with such strong players, I see our fourth place as a big success. In my opinion, If we practice diligently throughout the winter season and we will acquire experience during other competitions, then the National Cup will go to Kielce next year.

Boccia Preliminary Tournament for National Championships in Cracow.

2018-09-27-30

Between the 27th and 30th of September in Cracow Boccia Preliminary Tournament for National Championships under honorary patronage of the city mayor - Jacek Majchrowski took place. 16 teams participated in the Paralympic group, including 3-person representation of the świętokrzyskie region.

I have two reasons to be coming back from this competition with satisfaction: First, I won BC4 group; second, as for BC5 group, my friend Mateusz Waksmundzki won it and he is practicing with me for only a few months and this was his first appearance at a ranking competition.

This consequently means that out of five categories, Kielce got two gold medals.

In addition, I have to give a word of praise to my opponents from the group-stage games: Dominik Walczyk, Mateusz Adamczyk, Andrzej Wójcik and Marek Beszczyński who have made incredible progress and all matches were very close-fought.

We would like to thank the organisers for their hospitality and wonderful atmosphere.

Memories from World Boccia Open 2018.

2018-07-02-09

Portugal turned out to be a lucky place for our national team. Everyone advanced in the world ranking. As it is often the case in sport, many different elements contribute to success or failure, among others, preparation, current shape, draw, a bit of luck. Despite the fact that in the group stage I had to compete with both the winner of the competition and the gold medalist from Rio, I don’t complain. There were strong players in all BC4 groups and all athletes played at a very high level. This consequently means that there was no easy group. Despite the fact that I played better than a year ago in Seville, I gained only (or is it so much as) 13th place. As always, I’m not completely satisfied. Currently, both Davor Komar (CRO) and Michaela Balcowa (SLO) play better than me. To beat them, I have to work more on the strength of my throw while knocking out the balls as well as on being concentrated throughout all 4 ends. What makes me happy are two won ends in the match with the winner of BC4 category. In addition, I had the opportunity to try out new throws which I practice for a short time. I think that very soon they will help me compete with the best players. This competition had also been an opportunity to get to know new people. I hope that those conversations that I had will soon result in training sessions and sparring matches with players from the Czech Republic. We say little about Patryk, and in my opinion he played on a very good equal level despite the fact that he had two difficult opponents. I think that we should also praise him. I would like to thank Kasia as well as all players, coaches and caregivers for wonderful atmosphere during the whole trip and event.

The second Świętokrzyski Boccia Marathon.

2018-06-05

The idea of organising our competition came to me in March 2017. Fed up with too long winter and break in games, we decided to meet up in a group of 5-6 people and play a few games together. As it soon turned out, more players wanted to participate in our competition. Already in May 2017 we made our idea a reality. First, then referred to as ‘mini’, Boccia Marathon took place in Piekoszów with a dozen players.

On the 2nd of June 2018 we commenced our tournament in which collectively 90 participants (players with their assistants) took part. Those who had announced their participation in the second Świętokrzyski Boccia Marathon include many prominent players from Poland, Denmark and Ukraine (including European Championships medalists), this had been the sign for world-level fight and that was what we actually witnessed. Tournament was played at a very high speed. In all, 107 matches were completed - including two friendly ones. Players had the opportunity to check their abilities against those with whom they have never played before.

Organisers ensured a great surprise for participants. They invited the best Polish handball players who are also one of the best teams in the world - PGE VIVE Kielce. This is the team which is a 15 times National Champion and won National Cup just as many times and in the 2015/16 season won the Champions League.

These prominent guests had not only cheered for our players but they also greeted them on court. We also had time for taking pictures, both with players and the mascot of PGE VIVE Kielce team - friendly Kiełek and to play two sparring games with wheelchair athletes.

During competition we had the opportunity to taste the cakes baked by ladies from the „Dąbrowianki” vocal group and parents of the players.

„Nasza Dąbrowa” association helped in preparing tables and tents for Saturday grill as well as in preparing the sports hall for the competition.

During the tournament we heard the cheering of: priest Witold Janocha – national priest for disabled athletes, priest Jacek Kopeć - headmaster of Catholic Schools Complex, Andrzej Michalski - manager of the świętokrzyski branch of the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled People in Kielce, authorities of the Masłów commune with its head Tomasz Lato and deputy head Monika Dolezińska-Włodarczyk as well as Krystyna Nowakowska - the manager of the Centre for Education and Culture „Szklany Dom” and many more wonderful people.

On Saturday evening the players partook in grill while listening to the show of the „Dąbrowianki” folk group. Additionally the evening abounded with tasty cakes baked by ladies from “Dąbrowa” accompanied by loud “Happy Birthday” for Kasia.

Sunday brought semifinal and final games. Apart from victories of the favourites we had also a few surprises. What makes us happy is the fact that members of our national team are in good shape as well as the fact that our competition was on a very high level in terms of sport. At the end, all players got souvenir statuettes and gadgets, and winners of categories additionally got trophies. The competition gave a lot of joy to everyone, it was a great sport event and also the show of integration of able-bodied and the disabled.

On behalf of the players I would like to warmly thank those people and companies without which it would not be possible for the competition to take place: Marshal of the świętokrzyskie province- Adam Jarubas, head of the Masłów commune - Tomasz Lato, Krystyna Nowakowska - manager, Marcin Gawron - manager, President Bertus Sarvas together with the whole team of PGE VIVE Kielce, TERMATEX Sp.z o.o., company for specialized services, KAUFLAND in Kielce, Ewa Sałaj - Foundation for Active Rehabilitation, „Dąbrowianki” vocal group as well as „Nasza Dąbrowa” Association. Those who hugely contributed to organising the competition include: Katarzyna Janowska, Małgorzata Kopeć, referees together with the head referee Mieczysław Nowak, assistants and caregivers of the players, volunteers, firemen as well as many more kind people.

Big heartfelt thank you to all of you and, hopefully, I’ll see you next year.

Our players win in the Czech Republic!

2018-04-22-24

Between 22 and 24 of April 2018 - 19th International tournament in boccia in Havířov // 19HTB took place in the Czech Republic. Tens of boccia players came to Havířov, including those from Poland. Adam Kujawa made a great debut in international competition, after difficult group-stage matches he ultimately got the 4th place in BC3. Another debutant Dominik Walczyk won his group and, just as Andrzej Janowski, reached the individual games BC4 quater-final. BC4 pair games brought similar emotions. Member of Polish national team Andrzej Janowski together with Artem Kolinko (UKR) won all group and knockout stage matches and got first place in BC4 pairs tournament. Polish and Slovak pair: Andrzej Wójcik and Marian Klimko was just behind them - they received the second place. We would like to congratulate the players and wish them further successes both in national and international competitions.
